The fall semester is in full swing. As the temperatures plunge and the air begins to chill, students are hitting the pavement in search for new gear and gadgets to help them readjust to the crisp Tallahassee weather.
Kelan Williams, a fourth-year biology/pre-med student from Fort Lauderdale says a laptop is a must, “I do everything on my computer… Everything.”
The MacBook Pro owner proclaims his professor posts class lectures online, “I’m not going to lie. It makes everything easier.”
While many students tote their portable PCs around from class to class for note-taking and paper-writing, many prefer to have the world at their finger-tips. Apple’s iPad is the new kid on the block, revolutionizing the way many people learn.
Other hand-held mobile devices are also selling like hotcakes.
Anthony Cooper,a third year, pharmacy student from Philadelphia confesses that he probably wouldn’t make it through the day without his iPhone. “It’s the best phone I’ve ever had. It gives me remote access to the things I need at all times.”
With the new app craze sweeping through cell-phone technology, it’s understandable.
While some students are still saving their dollars for the iPhone 4, others are saving up for the new HTC Evo 4G. It may just give Apple a run for their money.
Other electronic must-haves are smaller but aren’t necessarily needed for scholastic success. Something as simple as a watch, accessorizes an outfit while keeping a student cognizant of the time.
G-Shock watches introduces their G-LIDE series of timekeepers this season. They’ll also debut their new DGK skate-label collab pieces.
Like many Rattlers, Cooper is fond of them. He’s satisfied with their durability and broad range of hues that are easy to match with his rare, colored kicks.
Speaking of footwear, although technology seems to be at the forefront of supply lists, wardrobe choices can also be essential to a student’s success on the Hill.
Regina Calhoun, a graduating health management senior from Jacksonville prefers to have versatile pieces in order to maneuver from one place to the next without compromising her professionalism.
“Ankle boots keep my feet warm and my toes covered and can go from day to night. Big purses keep all my stuff in one place so I’m not worried about leaving anything anywhere,” Calhoun says.
She may be in luck. H&M’s fall line of shoes can go from the office to the club. The boots vary in height, color, texture and cuts to cater to different tastes and styles.
Some young men agree that versatile fall clothing is a benefit to them too. Williams says V-neck sweaters are good for the same reasons. “I don’t have to keep changing and I’m ready for everything.”
H&M didn’t forget about the fellas. ‘Smart casual’ is the new fashion trend for males and their winter collection of structured jackets and streamlined blazers are stylish options men have to stay warm.
At the end of the day preparedness is what’s most important.
