Pamper Me Pretty Part 2: Showcases Women-owned Businesses and Empowerment

“Pamper Me Pretty Part 2” was held on Saturday, February 10 in Phase III assembly room. Mia Wilborn, a Junior Pharmacy student and Audri Salter, a Junior Political Science and African American Studies student hosted the event. This event mark the second installment to their event last year in November.
The evening was filled with socializing, pampering and discussion with several guest appearance from Tallahassee’s finest businesses by women; Kenderia Moore (Kaybeatssss), Kiya and Niya (Makeitadouble2), Queensdollhouse, Angel Olofin (Bosswomentally), Ashley Jackson (Iwebzdesign), and cheatdaytally.
These two ladies started this event as an opportunity to inspire and serve as a platform for women in the class of FAMU 19 – FAMU 21 who have their own business by providing them with a networking outlet. Wilborn said, “its to just help with the whole support black businesses movement and also get all the ladies here to actually learn how to support each other, in addition to having a good time, empowering each other, etc”.
Near the end Wilborn was left speechless on how well their event did compared to last semester when they had rough around 15 people in attendance. “That’s why i was kind of tongue tied when Audri and I were doing our final remarks because i was just happy to see how well we expanded and engaged everyone”, said Wilborn.
“Events like Pamper Me Pretty are essential because in spite of what the title may suggest, this program allowed for a healthy dialogue among women that dealt with both inner and outer beauty”, said Salter.
As Ms. Big Brother Little Brother (BBLB), I am so very happy that i was able to help facilitate this event and put forward this positive energy”, said Salter
Shay Joseph, a freshman, attend the same event last semester and was amazed at the growth and the vendors that was able to attend. “I was happy to be in attendance once again and indulge in the conversation about women empowerment, self worth and starting up your own business,” said, Joseph.
Angel Olofin, Founder of BossWomenTally, was present and talked about her journey and what worked for her as a female entrepreneur. Olofin said. “I want to see all women take their careers all the way to the top, the man doesn’t always have to be the breadwinner of the relationship.”
Despite the small hiccups, the turnout outshined and left many girls that attend the event speechless as they left with a newfound knowledge, connections and drive to push their dreams to the forefront instead of letting it waste away.
