When it comes to finding the perfect parking spot, its crucial to how you mornings or day will turn out. Imagine attending a University with over 9,000 students, and there is limited parking on campus. How does this make you feel? Angry? Frustrated?

According to the Tallahassee Democrat, FAMU has experienced a 40% percent increase in freshman for summer, and fall of 2017. The number of expectant students is expected to rise.

FAMU is also seeing a rise in students transferring from Florida State Colleges and from other institutions across the nation.

Ilesha Robertson, a FAMU student said, “Parking on campus is ridiculous. We need more parking”. With the parking garage being closed for Fall of 2017, and now parking on Wahnish across from the parking garage being closed, students are furious.

Many students have complained about having to park in Bragg Memorial Stadium and walk to B.L. Perry. Students are also having to park in faculty parking because the number of students that are attending FAMU.

When asked how does parking on campus affect you as a student, Bria Newport said, “This affects me because, I’m late to class almost every day, and I’m having to park in Bragg to get to class. There has to be a solution to this problem.”

More students have responded in a positive way and said, they understand that FAMU is growing, and is building each day, however, they are willing to adapt for the time being.

The negative to having limited parking on campus is its causing students to walk further than usual, and its affecting some students academically.

Myah Woody a FAMU student said, “I don’t have a car, however, that’s inconvenient to have to walk across campus just to park. Hopefully the issue gets resolved soon.”

With FAMU being the NO.1 HBCU in the nation, many Alumni’s and Alumna’s continue to give back to FAMU as much as possible. Some have went as far as supporting FAMU on a national level. Many hope to give in hopes of helping the school and the students.

Some students have also said that, FSU has plenty of parking for their students. However, FSU receives more monies from their Alumni’s and sports fans.

As time goes on, FAMU will continue to grow and flourish. With time, FAMU will gain more and more students and Alumni and it will reach its overall goal in building for the betterment of the students and future students to come.
