Bad Boys for Life Review

After seventeen long years, the world has finally been gifted with what makes the Bad Boys series a trilogy, the third action-packed film: Bad Boys for Life.

It all started in the year 1995 when the two Miami-Dade detectives, Mike Lowrey who is played by Will Smith and Marcus Burnett who is played by Martin Lawrence teamed up to fight violence in the city of Miami and it has been a hit ever since.

For its opening performance which happened to be over the 3-day Martin Luther King Jr weekend, Bad Boys for Life earned $73 million, and a total of more than $100 million worldwide. This debut has the highest opening for any film for January 2020 thus far.

Nostalgia hit me as I sat in the theater seat waiting for the film to begin. It starts off with the dynamic duo, Mike and Marcus speeding through the streets of Miami in a blue Porsche in efforts to arrive to what we find out to be the birth of Marcus’s grandson.

The beautiful scene then transitions to a very dark one as we are introduced to the antagonists of the film who are on the hunt for the blood of one of the well-known Miami-Dade detectives. We are taken through ups and downs and twist and turn as the scenes switch back and forth from Miami to Mexico City, and we sit on the edge of our seats during the thrilling plot-twisted film.

Familiar faces like actress Vanessa Hudgens and music mogul, DJ Khaled make an appearance in the film while other stars are heard on the lit soundtrack such as Meek Mill, The City Girls, and The Black Eyed Peas, only to name a few.

The two hour and 4 minute film has a great mix of comedy, grief, action, and thrill. It is definitely a film that you could watch on your own, and it undeniably makes a great movie date.

While it took nearly a decade for us to be blessed with the third motion picture, there are already talks of there being a Bad Boys IV in the works. According to nerdist.com, “Chris Bremner will return to write the fourth installment of the franchise.”

So for all you Bad Boys fans hold on tight, because in the words of Mike and Marcus, “We ride together, we die together. Bad boys for life.”
