Hailing from Reading, Pennsylvania, Maritza Wiggins is a graduating Architecture scholar and a Rattler filled with pride and determination. Maritza comes from a long line of Rattlers, being a fifth-generation legacy, and following in her family’s footsteps was one of her reasons for coming to the Hill.
Coming to FAMU changed her in many ways academically, in her work ethic, and socially. Attending the number one HBCU was a major culture shock, as she grew up in a small suburban town, but the experiences and lessons she gained are ones she would not trade for the world.
Maritza’s campus involvement is endless. From the Marching 100, Images Modeling Troupe, Incorporated, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, she is part of several major organizations. Her involvement does not stop there, as she also participates in honor societies and national student organizations such as the National Organization of Minority Architecture Students.
One of her greatest achievements has been balancing her many organizations and leadership roles while honoring her family by becoming the first one to join the Marching 100. Her campus involvement and her family are her biggest motivations.
When it comes to romance, she loves planned dates that lead to surprises. This lover girl may prefer to take the backseat in the relationship and let her partner take control, but she often finds herself in the front seat, and who could blame her. She is a go-getter. Her love for adventure is clear, as she has already visited ten countries.
What makes her FAMU’s Finest is the way she represents herself on the Hill. Maritza carries herself with pride and knowing who she is very early. The overachieving architecture scholar has built her own personal brand, which she values deeply as a FAMU scholar. She believes that her image as a all-around woman is what truly makes her FAMU’s Finest.
