Love & Relationships Poetry: Loving a Black Man
By: journeymagazine
Words By: Vonkeisha Gibson
Your head upon my thighs, it seems to be the safe haven for the loud beliefs
Beliefs of you always being second
Beliefs of you having to live up to American standards
Beliefs of you being God himself
My thighs let you rest
Post-Traumatic-Slave-Disorder bow down to my affirmations for your soul
“You’re Beautiful” “You’re Loved” “You’re Whole”
My black man, I trust your strength and stand in awe of your melanin
A special blend of leader, King, and loyal friend
I’ll love you by catering to your psyche
Avoid calling you NO GOOD
May my thighs provide you calming, as you try to impress me with perfection
Loving the black man,
nurturing his plans,
attentive to his dreams
It seems
You need me
Love flowing naturally
I need you
My thighs are sacred, creating energy and revitalizing your purpose
Of this love…you are worth it
Of these thighs…please feel worthy
