Balancing the Beat: How Camden Duckett Juggles College, Work, and a Rising Music Career

A Life in Motion 

For many college students, managing classes, a job, and a social life is already a tough balancing act. However, for Camden Duckett, who is not only a full-time student but also works and chases his musical career under the stage name Skylar Jones, the challenge is even more intense. Balancing these numerous responsibilities while remaining dedicated to his dreams demands strong discipline, effective time management, and a passion that drives him every step of the way. 

 The Balancing Act 

Duckett, a student at Florida A&M University, studies music industry while also working to support himself. On top of that, he spends countless hours crafting music, performing, and networking in the industry. 

“It’s not easy, but I’ve always believed that if you really want something, you find a way to make it work,” Duckett says. 

His day usually begins early with classes, followed by work, and then extends into late nights spent in the studio or practicing. Despite the exhaustion, he remains focused on his goals, pushing through late-night study sessions and early-morning music production. 

The Power of Passion 

Duckett’s love for music started early, influenced by artists who blend emotion and storytelling in their work. His music, released under the name Skylar Jones, showcases his ability to merge introspective lyrics with captivating beats. His growing catalog has already garnered attention on streaming platforms, where his unique sound is building a loyal fanbase. 

“Music is my outlet. It’s how I express what I’m going through,” Duckett said. “No matter how busy life gets, I always make time for it.” 

Support from Friends and Mentors 

Navigating such a demanding schedule requires a strong support system. Charles Ellis, a close friend and classmate, has witnessed Duckett’s journey firsthand. 

“Camden’s work ethic is insane. He’ll be in class, then head to work, and still find time to make music,” Ellis said. “He’s all about consistency, and that’s why he’s going to make it.” 

Balancing school and a music career also take guidance from mentors. Marcellus Dillard, FAMU’s assistant golf coach and roommate, sees Duckett’s determination as something that sets him apart. 

“It’s rare to see someone as young as Camden with that level of discipline,” Dillard said. “He’s making sacrifices now that are going to pay off later.” 

The Struggles Behind the Success 

While Duckett’s journey is inspiring, it’s not without its struggles. Managing time between studio sessions, performances, school assignments, and work shifts often means missing out on social events or even much-needed rest.  

“There are times when I feel overwhelmed, but I remind myself why I started,” Duckett said. “I have a vision, and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to get there.” 

Financial struggles also come into play. Unlike some artists who can dedicate all their time to music, Duckett must work to support himself, making the path even more challenging. 

Looking Ahead 

Despite the challenges, Duckett remains optimistic about the future. He has upcoming performances lined up and plans to release a new project soon. With each track, he refines his artistry, striving to reach more listeners and make a lasting impact in the industry. 

“I’m just getting started,” he said. “This is only the beginning.”
