FAMU’s Alpha Kappa Psi Presents “Campus Closet”
On September 21, The Omega Xi chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity Inc. began its fall interest week with business fashion in mind. Suits, cardigans and ties were all items that were showcased on the runway when AKPsi teamed up with the Florida A&M University Career Center to launch its latest creation, Campus Closet.
Students, faculty and members of AKPsi donated items that were showcased. The show was held for Rattlers in need of business wear. The Do’s and Don’ts of what’s considered “proper” business attire were presented, to better assist students as they enter the business world.
Models featured in the show found the new tips they learned on business fashion helpful. Princeton Studstill, member of FAMU’s Images Modeling Troupe said, “Having the chance to be a part of the fashion show enlightened me on how to present myself professionally.” Studstill continued, “Fashion seems like common sense, but when professionalism comes into the mix, it’s a whole new ballgame.”
Dominique James & Thomas Jamal, members of AKPsi, present new clothing
Dominique L. James has been a member of Alpha Kappa Psi since spring 2014 and is currently the vice president of membership. Her goal was to make an event that remained, “Classic.” James wanted the show to be traditional yet innovative, so it would not only garner attention, but also educate the student body. The Campus Closet fashion show was just that.
The Campus Closet aids in making sure the FAMU student body is prepared for professional life.
Dominique Parks, FAMU sophomore, made it her goal to come to the opening.
“The event was really nice, the items there were not common discount thrift store items,” Parks said. Parks went on to explain the clothes as brand name labels that were “basically free.
Alpha Kappa Psi and the Campus Career Center aimed to eliminate the common misunderstandings about professional business attire.
If you are in need of business wear and want to purchase items from the Campus Closet, the only requirement is a tangible copy of your rattler record file.
