FAMU Campus Mourns Death of Emojah Mullings

The student body of Florida A&M is in mourning after the unexpected death of one of its students.
Friends and faculty gathered around the Eternal Flame to host a candlelight vigil Friday evening for Emojah Mullings who passed on Monday due to a car accident. Students and staff came together where they comforted each other and reflected on the memories they shared with Emojah.
“I remember when I first walked in. She was like ‘Hey Roomie!’” and at first, I thought, oh my gosh I’m going to have a crazy roommate. But it turns out that she helped me in the toughest situations ever,” said a former dormmate of Emojah.
A couple of Emojah’s co-workers also wanted to show their respects.
“To be absent from the body is to be present with God, and despite the circumstance I want the family to know that the Earth has no soul that heaven cannot heal,” said Jhameika Barrington, Emojah’s former supervisor at Chic-fil-A.
Emojah was also a member of Faces Modeling Troupe. In honor of her memory, the organization performed a final catwalk on the quad.
Professor William Giles also took a moment to acknowledge the love Emojah has spread amongst the students on campus.
“My heart is gladdened to see that she not only had a SJGC family but a family university-wide.”
The service was led by fellow classmate and student of the FAMU School of Journalism and Graphic Communications, Jeremiah Carter.
“Think about that time Emojah put a smile on your face because that is what’s going to help you. I know everyone is sad right now, but brothers and sisters be encouraged. Be encouraged,” said Carter.
19-year-old Emojah Mullings passed on Monday from wounds she sustained when the vehicle she was riding in smashed along I-10 westward in Suwannee County on Sunday evening.
Troopers say Mullings was not wearing a seatbelt and was then thrown from the Toyota Camry as it traveled off of the roadway and overturned.
The driver and two other passengers in the vehicle suffered minor injuries.
