FAMU’s Chapter of The National Society of Leadership and Success Hosted Its Second Induction Ceremony

On Saturday, December 9th, family and friends filled Perry Paige auditorium in support of the 49 new inductees. The National Society of Leadership and Success is one of the newest organizations on FAMU’s campus and has inducted over 100 members since its startup in the past spring semester. The Society is the nation’s largest leadership honor society. Students are selected by their college for membership based on either academic standing or leadership potential.
In addition to honorable distinction, the Society provides a step-by-step program for members to build their leadership skills through participation on campus and at a national level. To get inducted a student must be nominated for membership and complete a series of training, and activities to meet the society’s national requirement. This includes an orientation, leadership training, speaker broadcast, and success networking teams. Newly inducted Dominique Zimmerman, said “The most memorable experience leading up to induction was the speaker broadcast with Wendy Williams.” Although she wasn’t there in person, Wendy Williams still connected with the audience and gave candid advice based on her personal experiences. Speaker broadcast is just one of the many resources that members can use for leadership advice, “The society has already prepared me on how to obtain and excel in leadership positions,” said Zimmerman.
From networking opportunities to a personalized recommendation letter, the National Society of Leadership and Success(NSLS) gives their members the proper tools to succeed in life. Theresa Ballard who is also a new member said, “She is eager to start working for the organization and take advantage of its many opportunities. Ballard serves as co-chair of the leadership and development committee and will work diligently to bring more awareness about NSLS to FAMU’S campus.
Furthermore, the new inductees received a pin, certificate, and a t-shirt, along with love and encouragement from current members and officers. Although it’s only the society’s second induction they have been working hard on campus to make their presence known. NSLS hosted their own week from December 4th-9th, that included trash cleanups, a resume workshop, and study hall. School service chair, Edrodsye Fils-Aime said: “NSLS is working towards not only building strong leaders but establishing family among its members.” Edrodsye was a part of the first inducted members class of NSLS and has consistently been active. The organization prides themselves on being open-minded and giving individuals the freedom to be their own unique self.
Therefore, membership at the national level is for life and provides access to benefits including scholarships and awards, employer recruitment through an online job bank, and discounts on computers, textbooks, grad school prep courses, and insurance. FAMU’S Chapter of NSLS is rising and constantly developing each semester. With strong members and a solid foundation, this society is expecting to influence leadership among the entire rattler community.
