FAMU’s Finest ’25 Destiny Hogan

For most, FAMU’s Finest is the reassertion of something someone already knows about themselves. Giving those in the light a chance to step further into its glare. However, for this Tallahassee native, it’s a chance to get out of their comfort zone and gain a new experience.

Destiny Hogan, a fourth-year broadcast journalism student attending FAMU, has always had a behind-the-scenes hand in many projects. From writing with the FAMUAN to working with TV-20 and beyond, she’s now ready to take us in front of the camera and computer and into her world.

Speaking on her journey through FAMU, she talks about how her experiences at FAMU impact various aspects of her interactions socially and beyond.

“It’s made me be more intentional about my connections, about making conversations, and just cultivating relationships inside the workplace in a professional sense.”

She continues, “It’s really allowed me to blossom and be comfortable. Being the only black student in AP-level classes in high school, I never had the chance to connect with my peers how I wanted, so I found that experience here.”

Outside of the social sphere, Ms. Hogan says FAMU allowed her to take advantage of the time she has in college to experience and have fun at the beginning of her 20s socially and through dating. Which isn’t this true for all college students anyway, as it allows us to understand and know what we want and don’t want in our lives after the college bubble.

Even within that bubble, when Ms.Hogan wants to pop it and unwind, she makes an effort to make me a time apart from her schedule.

“I try to prioritize setting time for me to be free. You know, I like to pray in the mornings, journal, and do my devotion at night. I like to unwind and dance or light candles all around my house. It’s about finding those gaps in my days and prioritizing myself and my time.”

Having these practices and being a grounded individual and spirit, taking on the daunting task of coming from under the radar to under the sun among FAMU’s Finest was definitely a different experience for Ms.Hogan.

“I think last year and this year, I have been more social than I’ve ever been in all my years here in college. It’s a little cringy, but it’s also exciting because I get to step out of my comfort zone. The team helped me be more comfortable with embracing this experience, it feels, feels like a beautiful thing.”

Finding someone like this is rare, genuine, grounded, authentic, and calm in essence, reaching far beyond the page or the rooms she walks in. Even if she’s under the radar, hopefully now she’s on yours.
