After a tumultuous campaign season the class of 2020 freshman class president, vice-president, freshman attendant, and freshman senators have finally been elected.

The candidates began their campaigns for on Sept. 19th after a twice delayed candidacy period.

“The elections were pushed back due to the fact that there was no appointed Attorney General and there was no quorum in the Judicial Branch,” Clinch said.

The general election was held Oct. 11 and a run-off for the freshman attendant race was held on Oct. 13. The run-off election was held because no candidate received the majority vote of 50 percent plus one.

The runoff was held between Phyllisity Walters and Sierra Sirju, Sirju received the most votes in the general election and ultimately won the race. Eight freshman senators were elected: Isaiah Butterfield, Aaricka Freeman, Taylor Hall, David Jackson III, Andy Jean-Baptiste, Jabari Knox, Christopher Miller and Rochard Maricette.

Freshman senator Knox stated that his primary goal will be to remain transparent with his constituents and to keep an open line of communication.

“Information is what FAMU ‘20 has lacked. When the president got ‘kicked out,’ the majority of FAMU ‘20 was uninformed on the issues surrounding it. Many didn’t know she was getting ‘kicked out’ until the day of,” said Knox.
