Lil Wayne Performing in the Capital City

Grammy award winning hip-hop artist, Lil Wayne, is coming to Tallahassee with a headlining performance for “The Weekend Kickoff Live” at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center. The show is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28.
The event is presented by Oak View Group and LIVE NATION. Lil’ Wayne will be joined by Atlanta rapper Rich Homie Quan.
Civic Center employee, Debra Paul, shared what they expect for the big day.
“We are anticipating a large crowd from both universities, specifically Florida State because of the football game. As an employee, we have to make sure there is no underage drinking and there is no fighting to protect everyone
’s safety. We are excited and looking forward to seeing Lil’ Wayne. Most importantly, we want everyone to enjoy the show,” Paul said.
Students and Tallahassee natives alike are preparing for what they know will be an unforgettable experience.
Kayla Joshua, a University of Central Florida student, will not let the four hour commute stop her from seeing the hip hop artist.
“I was ecstatic when I was informed that my favorite rapper would be performing in my hometown. There were no ifs, ands or buts about me seeing him. Even if that meant traveling four hours,” Joshua said.
The Grammy-winning rapper announced last month that he will be putting down the mic soon, much to the dismay of his loyal fanbase. Lil’ Wayne confirmed his retirement in an interview with Undisputed on FS1. The rapper shared that his reason stemmed from his ongoing feud with former boss and music mogul Bryan “Birdman” Williams.
Deidra Evans, Florida State alumna, stated why attending the concert meant so much to her after receiving the news of the rapper’s retirement.
“I have been a fan of his for so many years. There is a huge possibility that this could be my last chance to see him perform live in concert and an opportunity I just can’t pass up,” Evans said.
Splack Williams, Tallahassee fitness trainer, will not let the retirement statement stop him from seeing the New Orleans artist.
“I’m not really buying into his hype around retirement. It’s rare that he comes to Tallahassee, and I’ve seen him perform the past two times he’s come to the city. His third performance isn’t going to get missed,” said Williams.
Tickets for the concert went on sale Friday, Sept. 23, and are currently still available. The prices range from $35 to $75.
