Set Friday Brought to a Residence Hall

Florida A&M University sophomore students, Deyln Owen-Robinson and Kaleb Levarity, brought Set Friday to Sampson Hall on Wednesday evening, Jan. 29, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. by hosting an event called “Set ‘22 Karaoke Game Night”.

Owen-Robinson, a sophomore majoring in pre-professional pharmacy, and Kaleb Levarity, a sophomore majoring in accounting, created this event to promote FAMU’s sophomore class student business owners while enjoying games and karaoke. 

Over 100 students came to the event to partake in the festivities like singing along to songs, looking at the different vendors, or participating in the raffle. The raffle included items of a free medium letter, a haircut, a shirt, or a customized cup.

Owen-Robinson spoke about her satisfaction with the event saying “I am very satisfied with the results and turn out of Set ‘22. Kaleb and I were really honored to be able to give them this platform to showcase their talents. In the future, I would love to expand the event to include all of FAMU small business owners.”

There were 9 vendors in total from cosmetics to photography, to even fitness training. Jasmine Jones, a sophomore business administration student, had a business of selling custom letters and brought a snake to the event showing her appreciation of being a rattler and business owner of “adornbyjas”. 

Jones gave advice to those aspiring business owners saying “Go for it! Any idea that benefits someone or puts a smile on their face is a great one! Never be afraid to take a leap of faith & always push yourself to be better at what you’re doing everyday!”

Jones said that this event helped her expand her clientele in Tallahassee as well as other vendors that participated. Students enjoyed seeing everyone come together to support fellow rattlers like broadcast journalism student Anthony Bowie who attended. 

Bowie spoke about his favorite part of the event saying  “Just seeing the whole event come together from the karaoke night to everyone checking out the vendors.”  

Levarity and Owen-Robinson ended the event with a picture of all the business owners and students who attended; Which was taken by one of the business owners Malachi Somerville, a public relations student.
