A journey defined by perseverance, resilience, and faith, Aleigh Bonner’s time in the College of Pharmacy has been marked by growth. Before her interest in pharmacy, she explored other career options, earning her Associate of Arts degree in high school and taking her first steps into nursing. However, she soon realized her niche was serving underserved communities in healthcare. Earning her PharmD would be her next step toward that dream.
Many trials marked Bonner’s first term in pharmacy. Facing the complexity of her daily tasks, she learned that every journey is unique, and sometimes it takes falling to find the strength to keep going. While acclimating to the new journey, she made time to volunteer, build meaningful relationships with her advisor and peers, shadow FAMU alumni, and use social media to connect with healthcare professionals. By making these connections, Bonner has secured an internship with CVS Pharmacy, where she is gaining essential skills and hands-on clinical experience that will help shape her future. Also in Spring 2024, she studied abroad at the University College London medical school program, which deepened her passion for healthcare and showed her the importance of diversity.
Outside of Pharmacy, Bonner values her downtime as her focus is on the College of Pharmacy, working, and her leadership within the school. She balances 18 credit hours each semester alongside her responsibilities as a member of the Alpha Xi Chapter of Kappa Epsilon Professional Pharmacy Fraternity, Inc., and as president of the newly established organization, the National Diamondback Pharmacy Student Council.
When she isn’t leading or studying, Bonner enjoys watching anime, traveling, and exploring the world of art and design. She is particularly passionate about traveling to different places and finding inspiration in learning about new cultures. After graduation, she aspires to get her license and travel frequently around the world.
Beyond travel, Bonner plans to go directly into her field while ultimately giving herself room to explore everything pharmacy has to offer. While currently an undergraduate, she is interested in industry-based roles, specifically in project management and development, but remains eager and open to new possibilities.
A message from Aleigh Bonner: Being at a university surrounded by many brilliant, talented, and beautiful individuals can sometimes create room for comparison. I want everyone to understand that if you remain authentically yourself, you will always win in the end, and this is coming from someone who has experienced her fair share of setbacks. Stay grounded. Stay faithful. Trust the vision that God has for your life.
