There is a particular kind of man who understands that real strength is not loud, but guided, steady, and disciplined, and that man is Tyrese Gilmore.
As a third-year nursing scholar from Milton, Florida, Tyrese is a person whose path into nursing was not accidental, as he became intrigued by the subject after sustaining his own injury. Over time, he became captivated by medicine and how the body repairs, recovers, and adapts to different situations, and he allowed his curiosity to turn into a commitment.
Tyrese not only wanted to pursue this career to help others, but he also wanted to help when it comes to the disparities faced by Black men in healthcare.
“It is not prevalent that you see a black male that is a nurse and a doctor, and I knew I had what it takes in order to take that role that others avoid.”
As a black man entering a field with limited representation, Tyrese understands the importance of his presence and wants to foster a connection with everyone he works with.
“I feel like being in nursing you are exposed to so many different people, and as a nurse, your job is to cater to these people and their needs, and you take that and internalize it into your personal life.”
Nursing has required him to become fluent in communication and to develop emotional maturity that differs from that of the average college student. He is also very disciplined, maintaining a structured schedule, as time management is not optional in his life.
His responsibilities can become overwhelming at times, but when things get stressful, Tyrese turns to faith.
“I pray, and just shut the whole world down and have a connection with just me and God,” he shared. “I try to feed my soul in order to feed my mind, and once you do that, I feel as if everything feels brighter.”
Despite all these great qualities, Tyrese is currently single and desires someone receptive to love, but who also knows how to give it out not only to him, but to others as well.
“Love is something that can’t always be explained, but it’s always felt.”
With discipline in his schedule, faith in his spirit, and compassion in his calling, nothing is stopping Tyrese Gilmore from becoming the man that he is meant to be.
