By: Tianna Fannell | Staff Writer
Madelynn Moore, a senior studying public relations at FAMU, from West Palm Beach, Florida. With a childhood split between the beachside vibes of Royal Palm Beach and the familial roots in Belle Glade, Madelynn’s upbringing was rich with diverse experiences. Surrounded by a large family, including two brothers and two sisters, she was never short on inspiration or guidance.
“Growing up and embracing the dynamics with my siblings, my mom and dad, that’s something a lot of people don’t have, and I see it as a big blessing,” Madelynn said. “It’s something I didn’t fully appreciate as a child, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized how important it was to seek guidance from them and from others who have already experienced many things.”
From an early age, Madelynn was active and creative, engaging in gymnastics, cheerleading, track, and more. These activities weren’t just hobbies; they were the building blocks of her vibrant, youthful spirit—a spirit she carries into her life and work today. Family, especially her elders, played a crucial role in shaping who she is. The wisdom of her grandmothers and the influence of her older siblings provided a compass for navigating life’s challenges. This deep family connection taught her the value of guidance and experience, shaping her understanding of the world.
“The guidance is unmatched, even though it sometimes comes from a place of fear, trauma, and misunderstanding, relying only on the resources they’ve been given,” Madelynn said.“Yet, they managed to break many generational curses and blessed us in countless ways. This is what drives and sustains me today, knowing they overcame barriers that once seemed impossible to them.”
Madelynn Moore’s journey from a sheltered upbringing guides her toward self-discovery and empowerment. Raised in a nurturing environment, her life’s direction and choices were heavily influenced by the expectations of others, particularly her parents. This situation limited her exposure to the diverse opportunities and experiences the world has to offer.
As Madelynn steps into her own, her focus has shifted towards an exploration of self and the pursuit of knowledge on her terms. During this time, she discovered her love for sewing, a creative outlet that let her express herself uniquely.
“I want to be creative. I don’t want to place myself in a box. I just want to allow myself to just be. I’m only 21, so I know there’s time to assimilate and find the best direction to take and how I want to tackle that.” Madelynn expressed.
She’s focused on making choices that align with her authentic self and carving out her own space in the world. For Madelynn, seeking knowledge is not just about learning; it’s a path to discovering different aspects of herself, ideas, and careers that shape her into who she wants to be, reflecting her individuality and goals.
When it came time for college, Madelynn initially explored several majors before finding her calling in public relations. This field allowed her to blend her creative skills with a practical understanding of the business world. At FAMU, her journey has been one of growth and self-discovery, preparing her for the real world with a series of life lessons and humbling experiences.
Looking ahead, Madelynn has clear goals: securing a fulfilling job, focusing on self-improvement, and relaunching her clothing brand. Beyond that, she aims to live creatively and financially independent, trusting in God’s plan for her future.
” My plan is to trust God and the process, to see what He has in store for me. I’ve experienced so many answered prayers that it’s hard to envision exactly where I’ll be in five years,” she said. “My approach is to simply trust in God’s plan and His purpose for me, and I hope to share my knowledge and wisdom with those around me.”
Madelynn’s sense of self and approach to life are deeply rooted in the love and self-worth instilled in her from a young age. She credits her first experience with a sewing machine as a pivotal moment that taught her an important lesson.
“No one else is limiting us; no one else is stopping us from trying new things. The only person limiting us is ourselves,” Madelynn said.“I’m thankful I persisted because I wouldn’t be where I am now without it.” She added.
In relationships, Madelynn prioritizes integrity, honesty, and respect, emphasizing the importance of how a man treats his mother and grandmother. She challenges the idea that women should desire men who are mean to everyone but them.
“That is a reflection of his character and how he treats people.” She said. “In a partner I would like someone who is aligned with what I do like the gym, working mindset, and a provider mindset. A man in his full masculine energy who understands me on a mental, physical, and spiritual level.” She added.
Her perspective on love is shaped by her parents’ relationship, with over 20 years of marriage serving as her model.
“I always witnessed how my dad loved my mom in various ways… so I want to be able to emulate that in my own version,” Madelynn reflected.
In the spirit of celebrating love, particularly the love we hold for ourselves, Madelynn stands as a shining example of what it means to truly embrace one’s worth. She embodies the ideal of the prize.
