Jahmal LaPomarel moves through life with intention. A fourth-year broadcast journalism scholar from Miami, Florida, he is preparing to graduate from Florida A&M University with a mindset shaped by growth, creativity, and honesty.
When it comes to love, Jahmal believes many people are more interested in what relationships look like rather than what they require. From his experiences, he has learned that real connection takes effort, patience, and compromise. He takes those lessons and applies them to his careers and personal goals as he does to dating.
Jahmal’s balance comes from creativity. In his free time, he enjoys drawing, writing, painting, making music, and building things with his hands. Creating allows him to stay grounded and mentally stimulated, whether he is spending time with friends or working independently.
Authenticity is at the center of how Jahmal lives his life. He is passionate about encouraging people to be themselves and reject unrealistic expectations. That belief has influenced his career goals, pushing him to explore different paths and gain experience across multiple areas rather than limiting himself to one lane.
Growing up in Miami helped Jahmal realize early on that the world was bigger than his surroundings. He credits his parents as his greatest mentors, pointing to their constant support and belief in his ability to choose his own path.
Being named one of FAMU’s Finest represents a full-circle moment. As his time on the Hill comes to an end, the recognition reflects a journey marked by involvement, self-discovery, and growth. Jahmal leaves FAMU confident in who he is and prepared for whatever comes next.
