Nursing is a career choice for some, but for Taylor Nance, it was her calling.
A fourth-year nursing student from Tallahassee, Florida, Taylor has always had helping others woven into her identity, stemming from her own home. Growing up, she would create makeshift nursing games with her brother and dad to help them, and she allowed her imagination to become her purpose. Taylor was on the other side of the treatment as a child, making her desire to care for others rooted in her personal experience.
“Having someone who can keep your spirits up, while also treating you, was great, and I knew that I could do that, and it could be my job. “
Taylor is a student-athlete who runs track for FAMU, so when it comes to long study nights, track commitments, and maintaining a social life, she tends to have quite a bit on her plate.
For those wondering she is currently single, but she is very intentional with her desires when it comes to a relationship. She wants someone who relates to her while also understanding that she will be busy.
“I like someone who is funny and can have an intellectual conversation, who is a God-fearing man with a good heart.”
Taylor believes that nursing has benefited her in all types of relationships in her life, particularly in communication. She has learned through nursing that there are specific ways to talk to people who are having issues, and how to keep your composure regardless of whatever situation may unfold.
“I think that nursing helps a lot when it comes to therapeutic communication because it allows you to know how to talk to people while they are going through issues.”
Taylor has noticed that some people are starting to get into nursing for the financial benefits, but she believes it is something that needs to be done with love, because you don’t hesitate to help others when it is out of love.
“Love is an action word, and that means doing any and everything for a person that you are capable of doing.”
Taylor Nance is the type of woman who can study in the morning, run in the afternoon, and light up the room in the evening. She is nurturing, focused, and faith-driven, and while she may be single for now, she is already committed to her purpose.
