FAMU’s Finest ’25: Rowan Mumford
By: Autumn Haddox | Staff Writer

Valentine’s Day is here, we celebrate not just love, but passion—the kind that fuels dreams and drives ambition. At Florida A&M University, few embody that passion quite like Rowan Mumford, a rising creative force whose love for storytelling is shaping a future in media.
Rowan aspires to be a TV producer, documentary filmmaker, or multimedia journalist. With a deep interest in all forms of media and journalism, he finds inspiration in sports, politics, and entertainment. His curiosity and dedication set him apart, as he constantly seeks new ways to tell impactful stories.
Rowan’s journey to FAMU began when he changed his major of interest to journalism. After researching HBCUs with strong journalism programs, a tour and meeting with the staff sealed the deal—FAMU felt like home. Since then, the university has played a key role in shaping his identity and ambitions.
People might not expect Rowan’s thoughtful and kind personality at first glance, along with his diverse taste in music. He also has a hidden talent—he can speak French. When it comes to love, Rowan is intentional in his approach to dating. He believes love is an unexplainable sense of understanding with a person, someone who allows him to be his true self in all settings.
His love language is a mix of gift-giving and quality time, often surprising his partner with thoughtful presents and planning fun activities. He values communication, commitment, sacrifice and understanding as the pillars of a strong relationship.
Instant attraction is important to Rowan, as he prefers a spark over a slow burn when it comes to falling for someone. Creativity and knowledge are the non-physical traits that instantly draw him to a person.
Beyond the newsroom, Rowan is a true creative at heart. His hobbies range from videography and writing to cooking and hitting the gym. But if there’s one thing, he cherishes most, it’s music.
“It’s the best thing in the world,” Rowan said.
Rowan finds solace and motivation in the sounds of Ye, Frank Ocean, and Travis Scott. His artistic taste extends to film as well, with Jordan Peele’s “Us” standing as a personal favorite.Rowan’s personality shines through in the little things—like his love for Japanese ramen, a meal that never fails to bring him comfort, or his appreciation for the understated elegance of the color gray.
Every aspect of his life reflects a thoughtful, driven individual poised to leave a mark on the world. As Rowan continues his journey at FAMU, one thing is clear: his passion for storytelling, creativity and culture makes him a standout. Whether behind the camera, in the editing room or crafting compelling narratives, he is well on his way to becoming a visionary in the industry.
This Valentine’s Day, we recognize and celebrate not just love, but the love of one’s craft—and Rowan Mumford exemplifies that beautifully.
