FAMU’s Finest: Aleigh Bonner

Jordan Jackson

A journey defined by perseverance, resilience, and faith, Aleigh Bonner’s time in the College of Pharmacy has been marked by growth. Before discovering her passion for pharmacy, Bonner explored multiple career paths. She earned her Associate of Arts degree while still in high school and initially took steps toward nursing.

However, she soon realized her niche was serving underserved communities through healthcare. With that clarity, earning her PharmD became the next step toward fulfilling her purpose.

Bonner’s first term in pharmacy was not without challenges. Adjusting to the complexity of the program taught her that every journey looks different—and sometimes it takes falling to find the strength to keep going.

While acclimating, she remained intentional about building her future. Bonner made time to volunteer, form meaningful relationships with her advisor and peers, shadow FAMU alumni, and use social media to connect with healthcare professionals.

Through these efforts, she secured an internship with CVS Pharmacy, where she is gaining essential hands-on clinical experience and developing skills that will help shape her professional career.

In Spring 2024, Bonner also studied abroad through the medical school program at University College London. The experience deepened her passion for healthcare and reinforced the importance of diversity in medicine, offering her a broader global perspective.

Outside the classroom, Bonner’s dedication continues. She balances 18 credit hours each semester while working and serving in leadership roles within the College of Pharmacy.

She is a member of the Alpha Xi Chapter of Kappa Epsilon Professional Pharmacy Fraternity, Inc. and serves as president of the newly established National Diamondback Pharmacy Student Council.

When she isn’t studying or leading, Bonner enjoys watching anime, traveling, and exploring art and design. She finds inspiration in learning about different cultures and values travel as a way to expand her creativity and worldview.

After graduation, Bonner plans to obtain her license and travel frequently while working in the field. Although currently an undergraduate, she is especially interested in industry-based roles such as project management and development, while remaining open to exploring everything pharmacy has to offer.

A message from Aleigh Bonner:

“Being at a university surrounded by many brilliant, talented, and beautiful individuals can sometimes create room for comparison. I want everyone to understand that if you remain authentically yourself, you will always win in the end. And this is coming from someone who has experienced her fair share of setbacks. Stay grounded. Stay faithful. Trust the vision that God has for your life.”
